"When literature student Anastasia
Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she
encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The
unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and,
despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to
him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit,
Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.
Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Why is this an added read but not part of the "book club" readings you ask? This book is for a certain demographic and is not for everyone. Many people are calling it "mommy porn".
I read it because I've heard about it from other people, on the radio, and on tv, and I just wanted to see what all the fuss was about.
Honestly, I didn't like it. Not even a little bit. I thought the writing sounded like an hormone-charged teenager wrote it. I know it's considered erotica, but I was yearning for a storyline to follow. The only thing this story did for me was make me grateful for my husband and the "normal" relationship we have.
Many people, I've heard, LOVE this book and the next two in the trilogy. I really don't know if I can bring myself to read the next two. If you like it- awesome! It just wasn't for me.
